Power Systems Analysis

CEP 310 Power Systems Analysis delves into the fundamental principles and analytical techniques required for understanding modern electrical power systems. Students will learn to simplify complex system calculations using the per-unit system, enabling efficient analysis across diverse voltage levels and equipment ratings. The course provides a comprehensive treatment of load flow analysis, a critical tool for determining power flows and voltage profiles under various operating conditions. Emphasis is also placed on fault calculations, including an introduction to symmetrical components for analyzing unbalanced faults, which are crucial for system protection and design. Through theoretical instruction and practical exercises, students will develop the skills necessary to analyze, design, and operate power systems effectively, preparing them for advanced studies or professional roles in power engineering.
