Power Quality and Harmonics

CEP 370 'Power Quality and Harmonics' is an upper-division undergraduate course designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to identify, analyze, and resolve power quality issues in industrial, commercial, and utility environments. The curriculum delves into the causes and effects of common power quality disturbances such as harmonic distortion, voltage sags, swells, transients, and flicker. Students will learn about the fundamental theories behind these phenomena, explore advanced measurement techniques using specialized instrumentation, and understand how to interpret power quality data. The course also examines a range of mitigation strategies, including filtering, compensation, and system design considerations, to improve overall system performance and reliability, emphasizing practical applications and problem-solving.
