Certificate
Fiber Optic & Optical Transport Technician
A 12-credit certificate for fiber technicians. You start with fiber fundamentals and laser safety, then learn fusion splicing, termination and inspection, followed by loss testing and OTDR analysis. The final course covers DWDM, optical amplifiers, PON and fiber to the antenna. Coursework is vendor-neutral. It prepares you for industry practice and does not by itself grant any license or agency certification.

Curriculum
Term 2
Splicing, Termination and Inspection
This course provides comprehensive training in fiber optic splicing, connectorization, and advanced inspection techniques. Students will gain practical skills essential for deploying and maintaining high-performance optical communication networks.
OTDR and Optical Loss Testing
This course provides technicians with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required for optical fiber loss budget calculations, testing, and troubleshooting. Students will master the use of optical light sources, power meters, and optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs) for verifying fiber optic network performance.
