Medical Linear Accelerator Service — Advanced
A 20-credit advanced certificate for technicians already working on linear accelerators. Board-level diagnostics and intermittent fault analysis, image-guided radiotherapy hardware, treatment planning and record-and-verify integration, beam commissioning support, vault shielding and neutron safety, and a documented capstone project. The last two courses cover advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics, then inspection, regulations and compliance.

On-Board Imaging (CBCT) & Patient Positioning Systems
kV imaging arms, CBCT reconstruction, couch and robotic positioners, image-guidance calibration and QA.
Term 2
Linac Networking, DICOM-RT, TPS & R&V Integration
DICOM-RT objects, treatment planning system interfaces, oncology information systems, and network fault isolation.
Advanced Beam Commissioning & QA
Beam symmetry and flatness, output constancy, MLC log analysis, IMRT/VMAT QA support, and water-tank scanning support.
Term 3
Parts Management, Service Contracts & Vendor Relations
Uptime metrics, spare-parts strategy, contract structures, cost analysis, and clinical communication.
Advanced Radiation Safety & Shielding
Vault shielding, neutron production, activation, survey methods, and emergency radiation response.
Capstone: Linac Service Project & Certification Exam Prep
A documented service project plus structured review for the advanced certification exam.
Term 4
Advanced Troubleshooting and Board-Level Diagnostics
This course provides advanced technicians with the skills to diagnose complex issues in medical linear accelerator subsystems, emphasizing board-level component analysis and systematic fault isolation. Students will master schematic interpretation, signal tracing, and making informed repair-versus-replace decisions to restore system functionality.
Inspection, Regulations and Compliance
This course provides an in-depth understanding of regulatory compliance, safety standards, and inspection readiness for advanced medical linear accelerator subsystems. Students will gain practical skills in electrical safety testing, record keeping, and incident reporting.
