Battery Chemistry and Energy Storage

This course delves into the fundamental principles of various battery chemistries, with a primary focus on the widely adopted lithium-ion technology, while also exploring alternative and emerging energy storage solutions. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how electrochemical reactions generate and store electrical energy, examining key performance characteristics such as energy density, power output, and cycle life. Critical operational aspects, including Battery Management Systems (BMS) for monitoring and control, and thermal management strategies to ensure optimal performance and longevity, are thoroughly covered. Emphasis is placed on safety protocols, failure modes, and best practices for handling, charging, and deploying battery systems in diverse technical applications, preparing technicians for real-world challenges in energy storage.
