Charging Standards, Protocols and Communication
CHG 105 delves into the essential standards governing electric vehicle charging, equipping technicians with the knowledge required to diagnose, maintain, and understand advanced charging infrastructure. The curriculum covers key global charging standards, including the Combined Charging System (CCS), the North American Charging Standard (J3400), and CHAdeMO, analyzing their physical interfaces, power delivery methods, and communication layers. A significant focus is placed on ISO 15118 for advanced communication features such as Plug & Charge, and the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) for network management and station-to-backend communication. Through theoretical instruction and practical laboratory exercises, students will develop a robust understanding of interoperability challenges, safety considerations, and the evolving landscape of EV charging technology.
