Endoscope Anatomy and Reprocessing Fundamentals

Students begin by exploring the diverse types and internal construction of various medical visualization instruments, identifying key components and their functions, as well as common failure points. The course then transitions into the critical steps of instrument reprocessing, starting with immediate point-of-use care and meticulous manual cleaning techniques. Emphasis is placed on understanding detergents, enzymatic solutions, and appropriate brushing methods for lumens and channels. Subsequent modules cover automated washing and disinfection processes, including proper loading and cycle verification. The curriculum also details high-level disinfection versus sterilization methods, ensuring students grasp the distinctions and applications. Finally, learners gain proficiency in inspecting, testing, and storing reprocessed instruments to maintain functionality and prevent cross-contamination, adhering strictly to industry best practices and regulatory guidelines.
