Operating Room Support Equipment

ESU 110 delves into the critical support equipment that ensures a safe and efficient surgical environment. This course covers the functional design, operational principles, safety considerations, and common service procedures for various devices. Students will gain proficiency in understanding how surgical lights provide optimal illumination, how suction regulators manage fluid and gas removal, the role of smoke evacuators in maintaining air quality, and the mechanisms of patient warming units. Additionally, the course explores the complex mechanical and electrical systems of operating room booms. Through a combination of theoretical instruction, diagnostic techniques, and hands-on laboratory experiences, students will develop the competencies required to perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic repairs, preparing them for real-world challenges as biomedical service technicians specializing in operating room equipment.
