Electro-Hydraulic Systems and Proportional Valve Control

This intermediate course equips technicians with the skills needed to service and maintain modern material handling hydraulic systems powered by electric prime movers. Learners explore hydraulic fundamentals, fluid properties, reservoir conditioning, and high-pressure circuit safety before transitioning into electro-hydraulic integration. Core topics include fixed and variable displacement pump operation, electronic motor speed control, pulse-width modulation (PWM) valve driving, and closed-loop proportional spool positioning. Technicians learn to interpret fluid schematics, calculate hydraulic power and flow demands using formulas like $P = Q \times \Delta p$, and interface digital multi-meters and pressure transducers to isolate mechanical and electrical faults. Emphasis is placed on precision mast hoisting, free-lift sequencing, side-shift operations, auxiliary attachment hydraulics, and electronic lowering control. Through progressive diagnostic routines and extensive workshop activities, students build proficiency in adjusting pilot reliefs, resolving hydraulic-induced thermal runaways, diagnosing solenoid drift, and executing precision calibrations required across high-throughput industrial fleet applications.
