Hospital Infection Control & Safety (ICRA) for Service Technicians
HLT 101 prepares service technicians to work safely and compliantly within hospital environments governed by Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols. Learners will study the ICRA matrix and precaution classes I–IV, containment barrier construction, anteroom use, and negative-pressure verification methods. The course covers specific procedures for working in operating rooms and sterile processing departments, bloodborne pathogen exposure control, PPE selection and use, and proper hand hygiene. Two simulated bench labs reinforce containment setup, pressure verification, and PPE/decontamination skills in a safe, non-clinical setting. The course culminates in a capstone assignment requiring learners to develop a complete ICRA work plan, including equipment cleaning and decontamination documentation, for a simulated service scenario.
