Conveyor and High-Speed Sortation Systems Maintenance

This course introduces technicians to the core principles and electromechanical maintenance practices of industrial conveying, merging, and high-speed sortation technologies. Learners examine the mechanical and electrical components of roller, belt, and chain conveyors alongside variable frequency drives and basic sensor feedback. In-depth modules cover high-speed sortation subsystems, including pop-up wheel diverters, sliding shoe sorters, tilt-tray configurations, and cross-belt mechanics. Emphasis is placed on dynamic line balancing, merge induction timing, belt tensioning, motor drive alignment, and preventative diagnostic routines. Through practical exercises, students analyze kinematic requirements, such as conveyor linear velocity $v = \pi D n$, and resolve common mechanical failures like mistracking, component wear, and package jams. By the conclusion of the course, technicians will possess the foundational troubleshooting capabilities needed to support continuous operation, optimize throughput, and execute complex field service repairs within automated distribution and packaging facilities.
