Ultrasound Electronics, Probes & Image Quality Troubleshooting

This course provides biomedical equipment technicians with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to service diagnostic ultrasound systems. Students will delve into the principles of ultrasound front-end electronics, including pulsers, receivers, and beamformers, and their impact on image generation. The curriculum covers comprehensive probe fault diagnosis, element testing methodologies, and the identification of common imaging artifacts. Emphasis is placed on systematic image quality troubleshooting, differentiating between electronic, acoustic, and software-related issues. Practical exercises include board-level component identification, signal path analysis, and simulated repair procedures, preparing technicians for advanced service work on complex ultrasound platforms. Safety protocols and vendor-neutral diagnostic approaches are integrated throughout the course.

### Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
* Describe the functional blocks of an ultrasound system's front-end electronics and their role in signal processing.
* Perform systematic inspection and diagnostic testing of ultrasound probes to identify common faults and element failures.
* Identify and categorize various ultrasound imaging artifacts, correlating them with potential system or probe malfunctions.
* Apply structured troubleshooting methodologies to diagnose image quality issues, distinguishing between electronic, acoustic, and software origins.
* Utilize service documentation and test equipment to isolate faults to specific circuit boards or components within an ultrasound system.
* Implement safe work practices and adhere to industry standards during the service and repair of ultrasound equipment.
