Chemical Feed, Disinfection, and Automated Control Systems

This advanced technical course equips commercial water specialists with the practical skills required to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot chemical feed systems, disinfection infrastructure, and modern supervisory control equipment. Students investigate chemical metering pumps, preparation of dosing solutions, and oxidizer dosing protocols alongside secondary disinfection technologies such as ultraviolet irradiation and ozone generation. Comprehensive instruction in instrumentation covers analytical probes, flow sensors, automated valves, programmable logic controllers, and supervisory data acquisition architectures. Technicians master sensor calibration, proportional-integral-derivative control loops, safe chemical handling practices, and failsafe interlock testing to ensure optimal operating parameters. Emphasizing hands-on diagnostic techniques, the curriculum guides students through simulated equipment faults, routine preventive maintenance schedules, and system optimization scenarios. Upon completion, technicians will possess the competency to independently commission dosing systems, maintain analytical monitoring arrays, and resolve automation errors across diverse commercial and light-industrial water treatment applications.
