Certificate
Electrosurgical Unit & OR Equipment Service Technician
A 12-credit certificate for technicians who support the operating room. You start with RF electrosurgery principles — monopolar and bipolar modes, waveforms, return-electrode monitoring and burn hazards. Then you work through ESU testing with electrosurgical analyzers: power output curves, leakage, alarms and accessory checks. Next comes OR support equipment: surgical lights, suction regulators, smoke evacuators, warming units and booms. The final course covers OR electrical safety, fire risk, preventive maintenance and documentation. Coursework is vendor-neutral.

Curriculum
Term 2
ESU Testing and Analyzer Methods
This course provides essential knowledge and practical skills for verifying the safety and performance of electrosurgical units (ESUs) using specialized test equipment. Students will master electrosurgical analyzer operation, ensuring proper power delivery, patient safety, and functional integrity of these critical devices.
Operating Room Support Equipment
This course provides foundational knowledge and practical skills for servicing essential support equipment found in the operating room environment, excluding electrosurgical units. Students will learn the principles of operation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair for surgical lights, suction regulators, smoke evacuators, warming units, and OR booms.
