Certificate
Patient Monitor & Defibrillator Service Technician
A 12-credit certificate for technicians who service bedside patient monitors and defibrillators. You begin with monitoring fundamentals: vital-sign physiology, alarm philosophy, transducer principles and electrical safety in the patient vicinity. Then you study the measurement chains — ECG front ends and lead systems, non-invasive blood pressure oscillometry, pulse oximetry, respiration, temperature and invasive pressure — with the sensors, signal conditioning and calibration behind each reading. Next comes defibrillator and pacing equipment: charge and energy storage circuits, discharge pathways, AED analysis algorithms, transcutaneous pacing, batteries and test loads. The final course covers electrical safety analyzers, defibrillator analyzers, simulators, alarm verification, preventive maintenance and documentation. Coursework is vendor-neutral.
Outcomes
What you will be able to do
- 01Explain vital-sign measurement principles and transducer behavior well enough to evaluate a monitor complaint
- 02Trace ECG, NIBP, SpO2, respiration and pressure measurement chains from sensor to display
- 03Service defibrillator charging, discharge, pacing and battery systems safely
- 04Verify monitor and defibrillator performance with simulators and safety analyzers
- 05Perform electrical safety, leakage current and alarm verification testing
- 06Complete preventive maintenance and service records for monitored and resuscitation equipment
Careers
Where graduates work
